POWER MAC G4 - 15 Gigaflops of Creative Power

The dual 1GHz PowerPC G4 processors ”€ with a combined performance of 15 billion floating point operations per second, or 15 gigaflops ”€ put this fearsomely fast Power Mac G4 squarely in the lead as the ultimate high-end graphics workstation. The first Power Mac to blast through the 1GHz barrier, the new twin-engined G4 runs professional applications like Adobe Photoshop up to 72 percent faster ”€ and crunches digital video over 300 percent faster ”€ than a 2GHz Pentium 4-based PC.

Three super models
In addition to the dual 1GHz Power Mac G4, You can choose from two other models: the 933MHz Power Mac G4 with SuperDrive, or the 800MHz Power Mac G4 with a CD-RW drive. All three models support up to 1.5GB of PC133 SDRAM.Off-the-charts 3D graphics
Graphics performance is off the charts, with hot new graphics processors and dual display support across the product line. The ATI Radeon 7500 (available on the 800MHz model) and NVIDIA GeForce4 MX (standard on the 933MHz and dual 1GHz models) deliver riveting effects, with fluid motion and photorealistic 3D images. The GeForce4 MX, a phenomenal graphics processor with 64MB of on-chip DDR memory, renders 1.1 billion textured pixels per second to kick your projects into overdrive. You can also add the NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti graphics processing unit as a build-to-order option from the Apple Store (available in March). The NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti has a 128MB frame buffer, incorporates NVIDIA’s Lightspeed Memory Architecture II and pumps out 4.9 billion textured pixels per second.

The Apple Display Connector (ADC) makes it a snap to connect your Power Mac G4 to your choice of three brilliant displays. Cache advance
In the 933MHz and dual 1GHz Power Mac G4 models, faster-than-light processor speed gets an additional boost with an advanced cache memory architecture that provides ultrafast, dedicated memory with massively enhanced throughput. Accessing data from main memory is significantly faster than accessing data from the hard drive, and in these two models the system architecture takes this concept one step further with an even faster level of memory called L3 cache. The L3 cache uses 2MB of high speed, Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM running at up to 500MHz ”€ boosting processor function by providing fast access to data and application code at speeds of up to 4 gigabytes per second (GBps).
You also get the benefit of built-in Gigabit Ethernet for shooting large files across your LAN at previously unheard of speeds, 56K modem, AirPort Card slot, two 400Mbps FireWire ports and four USB ports (two on the computer, two on the keyboard). Incidentally, FireWire, PCI expansion (four full-length 64-bit, 33MHz PCI slots with 215MB per second throughput) and Gigabit Ethernet are integrated directly into the main system controller, reducing latencies and providing superior I/O performance.

The Power Mac G4 comes with 40GB (800MHz model), 60GB (933Hz model) and 80GB (dual 1GHz model) 7200-rpm Ultra ATA hard disk drives and three 3.5-inch hard disk drive expansion bays”€with support for up to two internal ATA drives, three internal SCSI drives, or a combination of two ATA and one SCSI drives for a total of 232GB of internal storage. And since the SuperDrive-equipped Power Mac G4 models come with iDVD 2, you can burn data CDs and DVDs”€with point-and-click ease”€to archive your work minutes after you take your new system out of its box. With up to 4.7GB storage capacity on a single optical disk, you’ll never run out of space for your ideas.
The keyboard that gets with the program
The 108-key Apple Pro Keyboard features full-size cursor keys for those times when you want to zip up, down and sideways to race through image retouching tasks, change direction in games, or jump from place to place in a document. It also gives you 15 full-size programmable function keys. So you can assign a single keystroke to quickly launch a favorite application, execute a command, or open a particular project file. The Apple Pro Keyboard also comes with full-sized keys for Page Up and Down, Home and End, Insert and forward Delete, plus a convenient Eject key for ejecting CDs or DVDs.
